Community Power in Action
The Hennepin County Attorney Community Relations Board (HCACRB) is a coalition working towards transforming the relationship between the County Attorney's Office and the community through transparency, accountability, and collaboration.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has historically pursued policies that over-criminalized marginalized communities, resulting in racial disparities in incarceration.
As a result, the relationship between that office and the community has been one characterized by disconnect, a lack of trust, and a perception that the justice system works against, rather than for, the people.
What We’re Doing:
Engage the Community:
Our coalition will build a base of community members and will actively engage this base in community events related to the County Attorney’s Office such as community forums and town halls, public demonstrations and rallies, outreach programs, and more.
Change Policies and Practices:
Our coalition will work collaboratively to identify policies and practices that should be challenged or implemented and imminent cases that warrant intervention. We will make suggestions to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office during our regular meetings with the office.
Our goal for 2024:
100
community members engaged
600
doors knocked
We work on behalf of those who are negatively impacted by the Hennepin County criminal legal system, including:
youth and adults of color
people in the sex trades
incarcerated people and
their loved ones
